The holidays are the perfect time to make those family favourite once-a-year beloved recipes, but have you ever wondered what the celebs are whipping up this time of year? The options are endless, from desserts to mains, but why not recreate a new dish from your favourite celebrity. With these delicious choices, we aren’t even sure where to start! 

Mother, wife of NBA superstar Stephen Curry, and publisher author Ayesha Curry loves to wow her holiday guests with a delicious amaretto and lemon glazed pound cake. This is how you can make it at home!

What you’ll need:

Ingredients for cake:

Confectioners’ sugar for dusting the muffin tin

1½ cups all-purpose flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp kosher salt

1 packed cup dark brown sugar

3 large eggs, room temperature, lightly beaten

1 cup plain whole-milk Greek yogurt

½ cup extra-virgin olive oil or canola oil

¹/³ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice

2 tbsp amaretto

1 tsp pure vanilla extract

1 tsp bitters, such as Angostura

2 tbsp grated lemon zest

Ingredients for Glaze:

1 cup confectioners’ sugar

2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice

½ tsp bitters, such as Angostura

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Oil a 4-inch by 8-inch loaf pan and dust with confectioners.

Next, In a small bowl, whisk flour, baking powder and salt, and in a larger bowl, whisk brown sugar, eggs, yogurt, oil, lemon juice, amaretto, vanilla, bitters and lemon zest. Using a spatula, gently mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until smooth. 

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake until a toothpick in the center comes out clean, 50 to 60 minutes. Let it cool for about 10 minutes, then unmold and cool completely on a wire rack.

To make the glaze: In a bowl, whisk confectioners’ sugar, lemon juice and bitters until smooth and creamy. Once the cake has cooled to room temperature, pour glaze over the top.

Slice and serve.

The next delicious dish is a family favourite for Gwyneth Paltrow. This tasty dish is the perfect accompaniment to any holiday dinner! However, if you’re looking to switch up your holiday side dishes, why not try these Potato and Apple Latkes with Smoked Salmon. 

Ingredients:

1 large baking potato, peeled and coarsely grated (about 1 1/2 cups)

1 large apple, peeled and coarsely grated (about 2/3 cup)

1 egg

1/3 cup matzo meal

1 teaspoon coarse sea salt, plus a bit more for serving

pinch freshly ground black pepper

1/4 cup olive oil

sour cream for serving or creme fraiche

smoked salmon for serving

Instructions:

Put the grated potato and apple in a bowl of cold water and swish them around. This will get some of the starch out, which helps your latkes stay crispy. Next, drain the potato and apple and squeeze out as much moisture as possible with your hands (or wrap in a clean tea towel and wring dry). Again, crisp is the goal.

Mix everything but the olive oil in a large mixing bowl. Add more matzo meal if the mixture is very loose (it shouldn’t be if your vegetables are nice and dry). Next, form the latkes into whatever size you prefer – I like to pinch off large tablespoons of the mixture and flatten them into thin pancakes using your fingertips.

Heat the olive oil in a large nonstick pan over medium-high heat. Fry the latkes in batches (don’t overcrowd the pan), about a minute or two on each side or until browned and crisp. Regulate the heat while frying – you want the pan to be hot enough to brown the latkes quickly but not smoking.

Drain the latkes on paper towels, sprinkle with a bit more salt, dollop with sour cream and drape a little slice of smoked salmon over each. Serve immediately.

The final celebrity recipe comes from the country queen herself, Dolly Parton. Recreate this sweet and delicious cinnamon bread to wow your holiday guests and have them coming back for seconds!

Ingredients:

Vegetable oil cooking spray

1/2 cup sugar

1 1/2 tbsp cinnamon

1 1-lb loaf frozen bread dough, thawed

4 tbsp (1/2 stick) butter, melted

1 cup powdered sugar, sifted

2 tbsp water or fresh lemon juice, plus more as needed

Instructions:

Coat two 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2–inch loaf pans with vegetable oil cooking spray. In a shallow dish, combine the sugar and cinnamon and set aside.

Cut the dough lengthwise into two pieces. Make four shallow, crosswise slits in each piece. Brush the loaves all over with butter. Roll each loaf in the cinnamon mixture, packing it into the creases. Place loaves in the prepared pans and set them aside in a warm place to rise for 30 minutes.

As the bread rises, preheat the oven to 300 degrees, then bake the bread, turning the pans around once, for 35 minutes or until the top is golden and a tap on the bottom of the pan yields a hollow sound.

Meanwhile, make the glaze. Vigorously stir together the powdered sugar and water (or lemon juice) in a small bowl, adding more liquid as needed until the mixture is smooth. Turn the breads out onto a rack while they’re still warm; drizzle with the glaze. Serve and enjoy!
