Lighter Breakfast Ideas for Warmer Weather

As the mercury rises and the sun comes out we crave less of the warm, hearty meals we enjoyed during the winter. Instead we reach for lighter, often colder options like smoothies, fruit and yogurt. We've asked three local nutritionists how they lighten up their breakfast while keeping it tasty and healthful!

"In the winter, I tend to eat robust breakfasts, such as dinner foods. As we move into warmer weather, I might opt for something lighter, like a healthy chocolate “milkshake” consisting of a scoop of Vega Proteins and Greens in Chocolate, 3 handfuls of spinach, half an avocado, and unsweetened coconut milk."

"As we move into spring my breakfasts tend to move away from denser, heartier, warming breakfasts towards lighter, fresher and more thirst-quenching breakfasts. I like to listen to my body and as the weather warms up, it seems to crave raw foods over cooked foods. Fresh fruits, yogurts, and smoothie bowls move to the top of my list ahead of breakfasts made of grains and starches. Even making minor swaps like switching from oatmeal to overnight oats, or from plums, oranges, pears, kiwis, and apples to berries, melons, peaches, papayas and pineapples works wonders."

"As the weather starts to warm up a bit, I tend to opt for cold breakfasts like overnight oats or chia puddings, or even smoothies and cold pressed juices."
